Defending Olympic champion Beth Shriever was in scintillating form as she advanced to the semi-finals of the women’s BMX racing. The British rider won all three of her quarter-finals, as did Saya Sakakibara of Australia and the USA’s Alise Willoughby, with all three qualifying comfortably clear at the top of the standings.
The men’s competition was dominated by French riders, much to the delight of the home crowd. Sylvain Andre, Romain Mahieu and Joris Daudet were the top three qualifiers and will battle it out for gold today. Their biggest threat is likely to come from Britain’s Kye White who claimed silver in Tokyo three years ago. Today will see the semi-finals and final of both the men’s and women’s competitions take place.
